Ingredients
  

For the apple filling

  • 5 cups apples (peeled and sliced) Best apples for baking: Granny Smith, Jonagold, Braeburn, Honeycrisp, and Cortland
  • ½ cup light brown sugar can use dark brown
  • 2 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
  • 2 Tbsp. water

For the crumb topping

  • ½ cup old-fashioned oats can substitute quick oats
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup melted unsalted butter

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Put the sliced apples into a 9×9 baking dish.
  • In a small bowl, mix together the light brown sugar, 2 tablespoons of flour, and 2 tablespoons of water to create a batter.
  • Pour this batter over the apples in the baking dish.
  • In another small bowl, combine the oats, 1/2 cup all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup sugar, and melted butter to make the crumb topping.
  • Spread the crumb topping evenly over the apples.

Baking

  • Bake for 1 hour or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.

Notes

Serve the apple crisp warm, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
