Ingredients
  

Apple Filling

  • 7 cups peeled & sliced apples Use a mix of sweet and tart apples for best flavor.
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp nutmeg

Topping

  • 1 cup old fashioned rolled oats
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour Use gluten-free flour for a gluten-free version.
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (cold and cut into pieces)

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, mix the sliced apples with ½ cup brown sugar, cornstarch, 1 tsp cinnamon, and ½ tsp nutmeg. Toss until the apples are well coated.
  • Pour the apple mixture into a greased baking dish.

Topping

  • In another bowl, combine 1 cup rolled oats, ½ cup all-purpose flour, ½ cup brown sugar, ½ tsp cinnamon, and ½ tsp salt.
  • Add the cold, cut pieces of butter to the oat mixture. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to mix until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Sprinkle the oat topping evenly over the apples in the baking dish.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the apples are bubbly.

Notes

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. If you have leftovers, store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
