Ingredients

  • 1 cup 226g unsalted butter, browned
  • 1 cup 200g packed brown sugar
  • ½ cup 100g granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • cups 315g all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • cups 270g semisweet chocolate chips or chunks
  • Optional: flaky sea salt for topping

Instructions

  • Brown the Butter: In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Continue cooking, stirring frequently, until the butter foams and turns a golden brown color with a nutty aroma. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
  • Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the browned butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Mix until well combined. Add the eggs and vanilla extract; mix until smooth.
  • Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  • Add Chocolate: Fold in the chocolate chips or chunks until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  • Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Shape Cookies: Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake: Bake for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the centers are set.
  • Cool: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
