Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • Zest of one lemon
  • 1 cup unsalted butter cold and cut into pieces
  • 1 egg
  • 4 cups fresh blackberries
  • ½ cup granulated sugar for the berry layer
  • 4 teaspoons cornstarch

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.
  • In a medium bowl, combine 1 cup sugar, flour, baking powder, salt, and lemon zest.
  • Add cold butter and egg to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your hands to mix until crumbly.
  • Press half of the dough into the bottom of the prepared pan.
  • In another bowl, mix blackberries with 1/2 cup sugar and cornstarch.
  • Spread the berry mixture evenly over the crust.
  • Crumble the remaining dough over the berry layer.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 35–40 minutes, until top is golden brown.
  • Allow to cool completely before cutting into bars.
