Preparation

  • Gather all the ingredients.
  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • Grate or cut the cold butter into small pieces and add to the dry ingredients. Mix quickly to keep the butter cold.
  • Fold in the buttermilk gently until just combined.
  • Gently fold in the fresh blackberries being careful not to overmix.
  • On a floured surface, flatten the dough into a circle about 1-inch thick. Cut into wedges or use a round cutter.

Baking

  • Place the scones on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Let them cool slightly before serving.
