  • 2 tablespoons olive oil For cooking the vegetables and meat

  • 1 pound ground beef Can substitute with turkey or chicken
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes Forms the base of the sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste For added richness
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs Adjust to taste
  • Salt and pepper to taste Salt and pepper For seasoning

For Serving

  • 1 pound spaghetti Cooking the pasta according to package instructions
  • Grated Parmesan cheese To sprinkle on top when serving

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat.
  • Add the diced onion and cook until soft.
  • Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  • Add the ground beef and cook until browned.

Cooking the Sauce

  • Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, Italian herbs, salt, and pepper.
  • Simmer for 20-30 minutes.

Cooking the Pasta

  • Meanwhile, cook spaghetti according to package instructions.
  • Drain spaghetti and combine with the sauce.

Serving

  • Serve hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently and consider adding a splash of water to prevent drying out.
