Ingredients

Filling

  • 6 medium medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji work well.
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Crumble Topping

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 0.5 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  • In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss gently to coat the apples evenly. Pour the apple mixture into the prepared baking dish.

Crumble Topping

  • In a separate medium bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, oats, and salt.
  • Add the cold butter pieces to the dry ingredients. Use your fingers, a pastry blender, or two forks to cut the butter into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Evenly sprinkle the crumble topping over the apples in the baking dish.

Baking

  • Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown and bubbly.
  • Let the apple crisp cool for at least 10-15 minutes before serving. It is delicious served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.

Notes

Choose a mix of sweet and tart apples for the best flavor. Make sure your butter is cold for a crispier topping. You can add nuts like walnuts or pecans to the crumble for extra crunch. If you prefer a sweeter dessert, feel free to adjust the sugar amount according to your taste.
