- 1 tbsp canola oil
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp sugar
- ½ cup ketchup
- 2 tsp yellow mustard
- ¼ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- 4 hamburger buns burger buns, brioche, or potato rolls
Cooking
Saute. Cook the onion and pepper in the oil over medium low heat about 5 minutes until they soften.
Make room. Push the vegetables to the edge and raise the heat to medium high.
Brown. Spread the beef in the center and cook undisturbed 5 minutes until it browns.
Season and break up. Season, flip, and break the meat into small pieces. Cook 2 to 3 minutes until no pink remains. The beef should reach 160 degrees F.
Add the sauce. Lower the heat, stir in the ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire, and sugar, and cook 2 to 3 minutes.
Serve. Pile onto buns and add pickles or cheese if you like.
Substitutions: Use brioche buns or potato rolls, and add cheese or pickles on top.
Tips: Let the beef brown before stirring and chop the vegetables fine. Taste before adding more salt.
Storage: Refrigerate the filling up to 3 days or freeze and thaw before reheating to 165 degrees F.
