Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb Fresh green beans Look for bright green, firm beans.
  • 6 oz Thick-cut bacon Opt for smoked bacon for maximum flavor.
  • ½ cup Brown sugar Adjust sweetness to taste.
  • 1 tbsp Soy sauce Tamari can be used for gluten-free.
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder For additional flavor.
  • ½ tsp Salt Taste and adjust as needed.
  • ½ tsp Black pepper Freshly ground is best.
  • ½ tsp Red pepper flakes Optional for heat.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Wash the green beans under cold water and trim both ends.
  • Cook the bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crispy, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Remove the bacon and place on paper towels to drain excess grease.
  • In a bowl, mix brown sugar, soy sauce, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes until well combined.

Cooking

  • In the same skillet with the bacon grease, add the green beans and sauté for about 5 minutes until they start to soften.
  • Add the brown sugar mixture and stir to coat the green beans evenly.
  • Continue cooking for another 5-7 minutes until the green beans are tender and the sauce thickens.
  • Mix in the crispy bacon and stir well before serving.

Notes

For a spicy version, add more red pepper flakes. To make healthier options, try using turkey bacon or less brown sugar. These can be made ahead of time to save on preparation.
