  • 2 lbs potatoes, thinly sliced Any variety, but starchy potatoes like Russets or Yukon Golds are best.
  • ¼ cup balsamic vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil Flavored olive oil can add extra taste.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped Feel free to add more thyme or other herbs.
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • optional Grated Parmesan cheese For extra flavor.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a round baking dish.
  • In a bowl, whisk together the balsamic vinegar, olive oil, garlic, thyme, salt, and pepper until well mixed.
  • Layer half of the potato slices in the prepared dish. Pour half of the balsamic mixture over the potatoes.
  • Add the remaining potato slices on top and drizzle with the rest of the balsamic mixture.

Baking

  • Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  • Remove the foil, sprinkle with Parmesan cheese if desired, and bake uncovered for an additional 15–20 minutes until the top is crispy and golden.

Serving

  • Allow it to cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

For best texture, slice the potatoes thinly and evenly. Storing the torte in the fridge for a few hours before serving can enhance the flavors. Customize with layers of other vegetables or different cheese toppings.
