  • 4 medium russet potatoes, peeled and grated
  • 1 small onion, finely grated
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon paprika

  • 3 tablespoons butter or oil (for frying)

Preparation

  • Grate the potatoes and place them in a clean kitchen towel. Squeeze out as much liquid as possible. Transfer the grated potatoes to a large bowl.
  • Add the grated onion, shredded cheese, flour, beaten eggs, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper to the bowl. Mix until all ingredients are well combined.
  • Take a handful of the mixture and shape it into patties, about 3–4 inches in diameter.

Cooking

  • Heat butter or oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Fry the hash browns in batches, cooking for about 3–4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy. Press gently with a spatula to ensure even cooking.
  • Carefully take them out of the skillet and drain on paper towels.

Serving

  • Serve hot with sour cream, ketchup, or your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

To achieve a crispy texture, ensure to squeeze out as much moisture from the grated potatoes as possible. Using a non-stick skillet or enough oil/butter is recommended for frying. You can experiment with different types of cheese for varied flavors.
