Ingredients
  

Dough ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 1.5 cups warm water
  • 1 tablespoon honey (or sugar)
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 large egg (for wash) Do not skip since we are not boiling.
  • to taste kosher salt (for sprinkling) Sea salt will do fine.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Combine yeast, warm water, honey, and salt in the bowl of a stand mixer.
  • Stir in flour and mix until the dough cleans the sides of the bowl (about 1-2 minutes). The dough should be smooth and slightly tacky.
  • Preheat your oven to 425 degrees.
  • Pull off pieces of dough, or pat the dough out and cut it for more even pieces. Shape them into pretzels or other fun shapes and place them on two lined or greased cookie sheets.
  • Mix the egg with a bit of water and brush it all over the dough shapes, then sprinkle some salt on top.

Baking

  • Bake for 13-15 minutes at 425 degrees until they are golden brown.
  • Cool on a wire rack for a few minutes before taking the first fabulous bite.

Notes

These pretzels are best enjoyed fresh out of the oven. Experiment with toppings like garlic powder or everything bagel seasoning for a unique twist. Use a parchment-lined baking sheet for easier cleanup.
