Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar divided
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ cup 1 stick butter, melted
  • 2 cups blackberries fresh or frozen
  • Optional: ½ teaspoon vanilla extract or a pinch of cinnamon

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Pour melted butter into a 9x9-inch baking dish.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, ¾ cup sugar, baking powder, salt, and milk until smooth.
  • Pour batter over melted butter in the dish—do not stir.
  • Toss blackberries with the remaining ¼ cup sugar and spoon them evenly over the batter.
  • Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the top is golden and the batter has risen over the fruit.
  • Let cool for at least 10 minutes before serving. Best served warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
