Easy Chinese Beef and Onion Stir Fry

Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients

  • 400 grams Beef steak Thinly sliced against the grain
  • 1 Large onion, thinly sliced
  • 3-4 pieces Spring onions, cut into 2" pieces
  • 2-3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 2 tsp Sesame oil
  • 1-2 tbsp Cooking oil (neutral flavor)

For Beef Marinade

  • 2 tsp Grated ginger or ginger paste
  • 1 tbsp Regular soy sauce or light soy sauce
  • 2 tsp Sugar
  • 1 tbsp Cornstarch or potato starch
  • 1 tbsp Cooking oil or sesame oil
  • ½ tsp Baking soda
  • ¼ tsp White pepper

For Stir Fry Sauce

  • 3 tbsp Oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp Regular soy sauce or light soy sauce
  • 1 tsp Dark soy sauce
  • 2 tsp Sugar
  • 2 tbsp Water
  • ½ tsp Cornstarch

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Slice the beef thinly against the grain and marinate it with the beef marinade ingredients for at least 15 minutes.
  • Heat a pan over medium-high heat, drizzle in some oil, and add the sliced onions.
  • Sauté the onions for just 1 minute.
  • Remove the onions from the pan and set them aside.

Cooking

  • In the same pan, drizzle more oil and add the marinated beef slices.
  • Sear the beef for 1-2 minutes.
  • Flip the beef slices, add minced garlic, and cook for another 2-3 minutes until the beef is no longer pink.
  • Pour in the stir fry sauce and add the stir-fried onions back to the pan.
  • Finish with spring onions.
  • Combine everything well and cook until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency.

Notes

Slice the beef thinly against the grain for tenderness. Adjust seasoning in the stir fry sauce to taste. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to three days.
