Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 3 medium potatoes thinly sliced
  • 1 can 10.5 oz cream of mushroom soup
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme optional
  • ½ cup sour cream optional, for extra creaminess

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Cook the Ground Beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef and diced onion until browned. Drain excess grease and stir in minced garlic, salt, pepper, and paprika.
  • Prepare Sauce: In a bowl, mix cream of mushroom soup, milk, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme (if using).
  • Assemble the Casserole: Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish. Spread half of the ground beef mixture over the potatoes. Repeat with another layer of potatoes and beef.
  • Add Sauce & Cheese: Pour the soup mixture evenly over the layers. Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes.
  • Melt the Cheese: Remove foil, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top, and bake uncovered for another 5 minutes until bubbly.
  • Serve: Let the casserole rest for a few minutes before serving. Optionally, top with sour cream for extra creaminess.
