- 12 oz pasta penne, fusilli, or your choice
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 1 small onion chopped
- 1 can 14.5 oz crushed tomatoes
- ½ cup heavy cream or coconut milk for dairy-free
- 2 cups vegetable or chicken broth
- ½ tsp red pepper flakes optional
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
- ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese optional
- Fresh basil for garnish
Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add onion and cook until translucent.
Stir in garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
Add crushed tomatoes, broth, cream, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Stir well.
Add dry pasta and bring mixture to a boil.
Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 12–15 minutes or until pasta is cooked, stirring occasionally.
Once the pasta is tender and sauce thickened, stir in Parmesan (if using).
Garnish with fresh basil and serve hot.
