Ingredients
  

  • 12 oz pasta penne, fusilli, or your choice
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 small onion chopped
  • 1 can 14.5 oz crushed tomatoes
  • ½ cup heavy cream or coconut milk for dairy-free
  • 2 cups vegetable or chicken broth
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes optional
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese optional
  • Fresh basil for garnish

Instructions
 

  • Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add onion and cook until translucent.
  • Stir in garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  • Add crushed tomatoes, broth, cream, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Stir well.
  • Add dry pasta and bring mixture to a boil.
  • Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 12–15 minutes or until pasta is cooked, stirring occasionally.
  • Once the pasta is tender and sauce thickened, stir in Parmesan (if using).
  • Garnish with fresh basil and serve hot.
