  • 1 ⅓ cups sweetened shredded coconut Use sweetened for best flavor.

  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour Can be substituted with gluten-free flour.

  • 2 large egg whites
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C).
  • In a bowl, mix together the coconut, sugar, flour, and salt until combined.
  • Add the egg whites and vanilla extract to the bowl. Stir well until the mixture is evenly combined.
  • Using a teaspoon, drop small amounts of the mixture onto a greased baking sheet, leaving space between each one.

Baking

  • Bake for 18 to 20 minutes, or until the macaroons are golden brown.
  • Once baked, cool them on a wire rack before serving.

Notes

Store macaroons in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. They can also be frozen with parchment paper layers to prevent sticking. For a fun variation, try drizzling chocolate over the macaroons or adding almond extract for extra flavor.
