Dough Ingredients

  • 4 cups bread flour Use bread flour for a chewier texture.
  • 2 cups warm water (between 90-110°F) Warm, but not too hot to activate the yeast.
  • ½ Tbsp sea salt
  • ½ tsp dry active yeast Make sure it is fresh for best results.
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil Plus more for brushing before serving.

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, mix the warm water with the yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it bubbles.
  • Add the bread flour, sea salt, and olive oil into the bowl. Stir until it forms a rough dough.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise for about 1 hour in a warm place. The dough should double in size.
  • After the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into small equal pieces. Shape each piece into a roll.
  • Place the rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 425°F. Bake the rolls for about 20-25 minutes until they are golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Best served warm. Brush with extra olive oil and sprinkle with sea salt or herbs for flavor. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or freeze for longer storage.
