Ingredients

  • 1 ½ lbs cod fillets cut into portions
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour for dredging
  • 2 large eggs beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs or crushed crackers
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Lemon wedges for serving

Instructions

  • Prep the Fish: Pat cod fillets dry and season with salt and pepper.
  • Prepare the Breading Station: Set up three shallow dishes: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, one with breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder and paprika.
  • Bread the Fish: Dredge each fillet in flour, then dip in egg, then coat in breadcrumb mixture. Press gently to help coating stick.
  • Heat the Oil: In a skillet or frying pan, heat about 1/2 inch of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until shimmering.
  • Fry the Cod: Fry cod fillets 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature 145°F / 63°C).
  • Drain and Serve: Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to remove excess oil. Serve with lemon wedges and your choice of sides.
