Grandma's Apple Crisp

Ingredients
  

For the topping

  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup softened butter cut into cubes
  • 1 pinch Kosher salt

For the filling

  • 6 Granny Smith apples peeled and thinly sliced
  • ¼ cup water
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Butter an 8x8 baking dish and set aside.
  • In a bowl, combine the sugar, flour, and a pinch of salt.
  • Add the cubed butter and mix it into the dry ingredients using the back of a fork until crumbly.
  • Layer the sliced apples in the baking dish.
  • Mix the water and vanilla, then pour it over the apples.
  • Sprinkle the cinnamon and nutmeg on top.
  • Using a large spoon or your hands, sprinkle the butter-flour topping evenly over the apples.

Baking

  • Place the dish in the oven and bake for approximately 50 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.
  • Remove from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes.

Notes

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Reheat before serving.
