Ingredients

For the taco meat

  • 1 lb ground beef Use lean ground beef for less grease.
  • 2 tbsp homemade taco seasoning Mix of chili powder, garlic powder, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
  • 1 cup water or broth For added moisture while cooking.

Toppings

  • 2 cups shredded lettuce For freshness.
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes Adds a nice crunch.
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese For a cheesy finish.
  • ½ cup sour cream Optional for a creamy touch.
  • 1 piece jalapeño, sliced For heat.
  • 1 cup guacamole If you have it on hand.

For serving

  • 8 pieces tortillas Warm them in a dry skillet before serving.

Instructions

Cooking the meat

  • Heat your skillet until hot.
  • Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it up with a spoon.
  • Sprinkle the taco seasoning over the beef and mix well.
  • Cook until the beef is browned and crumbly, about 7-10 minutes.
  • If excess grease appears, drain it off.
  • Add a splash of water or broth and stir to keep the mixture moist.

Assembling the tacos

  • Warm the tortillas and keep them stacked to prevent drying.
  • Spoon the seasoned beef mixture into each tortilla.
  • Top with your choice of shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, cheese, sour cream, sliced jalapeños, and guacamole.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

For a different twist, add pickled onions or charred corn. Leftover taco meat can be used in other dishes like quesadillas or casseroles.
