Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger grated or minced
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp orange zest optional
  • 2 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 small yellow onion diced
  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 3 cups broccoli florets fresh or frozen
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • salt and black pepper to taste
  • cooked rice or noodles, sesame seeds, and green onions for serving

Instructions

Cooking

  • Whisk the soy sauce, brown sugar, water, honey, garlic, ginger, cornstarch, and orange zest in a small bowl until the cornstarch dissolves. Stir again right before using.
  • Heat the sesame oil in a large skillet or wok over medium heat. Cook the onion for 3 to 4 minutes, until soft.
  • Add the ground turkey and cook for 6 to 8 minutes, breaking it into crumbles, until browned and cooked through to 165°F.
  • Add the broccoli and carrots and cook for 4 to 5 minutes, until tender but still a little crisp.
  • Stir the sauce, pour it into the skillet, and cook for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring, until thickened and glossy.
  • Season with salt and pepper. Serve over rice or noodles with sesame seeds and green onions.

Notes

Nutrition values are an estimate per serving, without rice or noodles. Ground poultry should reach 165°F. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for 3 to 4 days and reheat to 165°F, adding a splash of water if the sauce thickens.
