Preparation

  • In a large bowl, gently mix the ground beef with yellow mustard, minced garlic, sliced onions, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
  • Form the mixture into equal patties, making a slight indentation in the center of each.
  • Let the patties rest for about 20 minutes before cooking.

Cooking Hamburger Steaks

  • Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add olive oil.
  • Sear the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side until a crust forms and the internal temperature reaches 160°F.
  • Remove from heat and let rest for a few minutes.

Making Onion Gravy

  • In a separate skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
  • Add sliced onions and sauté until translucent, about 10 minutes.
  • Sprinkle flour or cornstarch over the onions and mix well.
  • Gradually add beef and chicken broth while stirring to prevent lumps.
  • Season with Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Simmer until thickened to desired consistency.

Serving

  • Serve hamburger steaks topped with the onion gravy.

Notes
