Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 3 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  • 1 cup soy sauce
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 5 cloves garlic, mashed
  • 1 piece ginger root, thinly sliced

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, mix the soy sauce and water.
  • Add the sugar and stir until it dissolves completely.
  • Add the sliced ginger and mashed garlic to the mixture.
  • Place the chicken in the marinade, making sure it’s coated well. You can marinate for up to 3 days, or boil it immediately in the marinade.

Cooking

  • Grill the chicken over high heat until it is charred and cooked through.
  • Once grilled, transfer the chicken to a pot on the grill, pour the remaining sauce over it, and steam briefly to enhance the flavor.

Serving

  • Serve Hawaiian Style Teriyaki Chicken hot off the grill, sliced or whole, alongside a bowl of steamed rice and fresh vegetables.
  • Garnish with sesame seeds or green onions for added flavor and presentation.

Notes

Store leftover chicken in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. You can reheat it in the microwave or stovetop until warmed through. For extra flavor, add pineapple chunks to the marinade or grill them alongside the chicken. For a thicker sauce, simmer the remaining marinade on the stovetop until reduced.
