  • 1 lb lean ground beef For a hearty base.
  • 4 medium sliced potatoes Provides texture.
  • 1 cup onions, chopped Adds sweetness.
  • 2 cups American cheese, shredded For a creamy layer.
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup Binds the ingredients together.
  • 0.5 cup milk To mix with soup.
  • 1 cup French-fried onions For topping.

  • bell peppers, diced For additional flavor.
  • shredded carrots Adds sweetness and color.
  • bacon, crispy and crumbled For a savory twist.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Spread the ground beef evenly in the bottom of an 8x8 inch pan and season with salt and pepper.
  • Add chopped onions over the ground beef.
  • Layer sliced potatoes on top of the onions.
  • Sprinkle shredded cheese over the potatoes.
  • In a separate bowl, mix cream of mushroom soup with milk until smooth and spread it over the cheese layer.
  • Cover the pan with foil and bake for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until the potatoes are tender.
  • Remove the foil, add French-fried onions on top, and broil for 5 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

Can be prepared ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator overnight. Increase baking time by 10-15 minutes if baking from cold.
