Ingredients
  

Doughnut Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Glaze Ingredients

  • 1 cup powdered sugar for glaze
  • 2 tablespoons milk for glaze
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract for glaze

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and nutmeg.
  • In another bowl, mix the milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  • Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/2 inch thick.
  • Cut out doughnuts using a doughnut cutter or two round cutters.

Cooking

  • Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  • Fry the doughnuts in batches until golden brown, about 1 minute on each side.
  • Remove and drain on paper towels.

Glazing

  • For the glaze, mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla in a bowl until smooth.
  • Dip the warm doughnuts into the glaze and let them sit on a wire rack to set.

Notes

Serve fresh and warm with optional sprinkles or other toppings. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature.
