- 1 lb 450g ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
- 1 small onion finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 1 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
- 1 6 oz can tomato paste
- 1 15 oz can tomato sauce
- ½ cup water or beef broth
- 2 tsp dried basil
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- ½ tsp sugar optional
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- Fresh parsley or basil for garnish optional
Sauté aromatics: Heat olive oil in a large skillet or saucepan. Sauté onion until soft, about 3–4 minutes. Add garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
Brown meat: Add ground meat, cook until browned and no longer pink. Drain excess fat if needed.
Add tomatoes: Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, and water or broth. Mix well.
Season: Add basil, oregano, sugar (if using), salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
Simmer: Reduce heat and let sauce simmer uncovered for 30–45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Serve: Spoon over cooked spaghetti or your favorite pasta. Garnish with fresh herbs and grated Parmesan if desired.
