- 2 pounds turnips peeled and chopped
- 2 tablespoons butter or olive oil for dairy-free
- ¼ cup cream cheese or heavy cream optional for creaminess
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 garlic clove minced (optional)
- Fresh herbs parsley or chives, for garnish
Peel and chop turnips into uniform pieces.
Place in a large pot of salted water. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer. Cook for 20–25 minutes, or until fork-tender.
Drain well and return to the pot. Let steam for a minute to remove excess moisture.
Add butter and cream cheese (or cream), then mash until smooth using a potato masher or immersion blender.
