Ingredients
  

  • 4 –5 medium apples peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 cup 200g granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup 120ml whole milk
  • ½ cup 110g unsalted butter, melted
  • cups 180g all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • Pinch of salt
  • Powdered sugar optional, for dusting

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch (23 cm) round cake pan.
  • In a mixing bowl, beat the eggs with the sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add milk, melted butter, vanilla extract, and lemon zest; mix well.
  • In another bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually combine dry ingredients with the wet mixture.
  • Fold in most of the sliced apples, saving a few for topping.
  • Pour batter into the prepared pan and arrange remaining apple slices on top.
  • Bake for about 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Let cool slightly and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
