- 4 –5 medium apples peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 cup 200g granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup 120ml whole milk
- ½ cup 110g unsalted butter, melted
- 1½ cups 180g all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Zest of 1 lemon
- Pinch of salt
- Powdered sugar optional, for dusting
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch (23 cm) round cake pan.
In a mixing bowl, beat the eggs with the sugar until light and fluffy.
Add milk, melted butter, vanilla extract, and lemon zest; mix well.
In another bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, and salt.
Gradually combine dry ingredients with the wet mixture.
Fold in most of the sliced apples, saving a few for topping.
Pour batter into the prepared pan and arrange remaining apple slices on top.
Bake for about 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
Let cool slightly and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
