- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- ½ cup applesauce
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups peeled and chopped apples such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp
- Optional: ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round or square cake pan.
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.
In a large bowl, beat together oil, applesauce, sugar, eggs, and vanilla until well combined.
Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined (do not overmix).
Fold in chopped apples and optional nuts.
Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
Bake for 45–50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Let cool before slicing. Serve plain or with a dusting of powdered sugar.
