Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 9 cups Rice Chex or any crispy square cereal Other sturdy cereals like Corn Chex can be used.
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup peanut butter Smooth works best, chunky gets messy.
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter Do not use margarine.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar You might need more or less based on preference.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Measure your Chex into a massive bowl—you need room to toss.
  • Melt the chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter together in the microwave or on the stovetop, stirring until smooth. Mix in the vanilla extract.
  • Pour the hot chocolate mixture over the cereal and toss gently to coat each piece without crushing them.
  • Transfer half the mixture into a large zip bag, add half the powdered sugar, and shake until coated. Repeat with the remaining mixture and sugar.
  • Lay the muddy buddies out to cool, or dive in immediately if you can’t wait.

Notes

These can be made ahead and stored in airtight containers for over a week. For longer storage, freeze in smaller portions. To thaw, spread on a tray and allow to come to room temperature.
