Ingredients

Dough Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • Warm water For activating yeast.
  • 1 tablespoon sugar To activate yeast.
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes foamy.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the activated yeast mixture, milk, and olive oil. Stir until a soft dough forms.
  • Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Grease a bowl with a little olive oil, place the dough inside, and cover with a clean kitchen towel. Let it rise in a warm spot for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.

Shaping and Cooking

  • After the dough has risen, punch it down and shape it into a round loaf or divide it into smaller portions.
  • Cover the shaped dough with a towel and let it rise again for 30 minutes.
  • Heat a non-stick skillet or cast-iron pan over medium-low heat and lightly grease it with olive oil. Place the dough in the skillet, cover with a lid, and cook for 5-7 minutes until the bottom is golden brown.
  • Flip the bread, cover again, and cook for another 5-7 minutes until the other side is golden and sounds hollow when tapped.
  • Remove the bread from the skillet and let it cool on a wire rack for a few minutes before slicing.

Notes

Store the bread tightly wrapped in plastic wrap or an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. For longer storage, freeze it well to prevent freezer burn. Optionally, add herbs or cheese for variations.
