  • 1 cup penne or fusilli pasta Whole wheat or chickpea varieties are recommended for more fiber.

Vegetables and Aromatics

  • 3 cloves garlic Chopped finely to release aroma.
  • 0.5 medium onion Chopped finely.
  • 14 ounces canned whole tomatoes Crushed by hand for a chunky texture.

Liquid Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups water
  • 0.25 cup heavy cream To be mixed in for creaminess.

Seasoning and Garnish

  • to taste salt
  • to taste black pepper
  • 0.5 cup grated Parmesan cheese For serving.

Preparation

  • Chop the garlic and onion finely.
  • Measure the pasta and set it near the stove.
  • Drain the canned tomatoes and crush them by hand.

Cooking

  • Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add garlic and onion; cook until translucent, about 2 minutes.
  • Add crushed tomatoes and their juices. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Toss in pasta, then pour in water. Stir to coat and bring to a boil.
  • Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 10-12 minutes until pasta is al dente.
  • Mix in heavy cream and stir until the sauce clings to the noodles.
  • Serve immediately with grated Parmesan.
