Main Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef or ground turkey 90% lean beef is recommended
- 1 large egg
- 1 ½ tsp dried parsley
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- ¼ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- 1 small yellow onion diced small
- ¼ cup plain breadcrumbs
Cooking
Heat the oven. Set the oven to 400 degrees F and cover a baking sheet with foil.
Blend. Stir the meat, egg, herbs, onion, spices, salt, pepper, and breadcrumbs together with your hands until evenly mixed.
Portion. Roll 12 equal balls, about 2 inches wide, and space them 1 inch apart.
Bake. Bake 18 to 20 minutes until golden and the center reads 160 degrees F for beef or 165 degrees F for turkey.
Cool slightly. Rest for 3 minutes, then serve with sauce.
Substitutions: Ground turkey makes a lighter meatball but must reach 165 degrees F. Gluten free breadcrumbs work in the same amount.
Tips: Keep the meatballs the same size and do not overmix. Add 1/4 cup grated Parmesan and reduce the salt for a richer flavor.
Storage: Refrigerate for 3 to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat to 165 degrees F.
