  • 1 loaf Italian bread
  • 1 lb beef steak (thinly sliced) Flank steak or ribeye is recommended.
  • 1 cup provolone cheese (sliced or shredded)
  • 1 onion (sliced)
  • 1 bell pepper (sliced)
  • 4 cloves of garlic (minced)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • for garnish Parsley

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add garlic, onion, and bell pepper, and sauté until softened.
  • Add the beef to the skillet, season with salt and pepper, and cook until browned.
  • Slice the Italian bread in half lengthwise and place it on a baking sheet.
  • Spread the beef mixture generously over the bread.
  • Top with provolone cheese.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Garnish with parsley, slice, and serve hot.

Notes

For a vegetarian option, substitute the beef with a mix of sautéed mushrooms or eggplant. This will still give you the hearty, satisfying feel without the meat. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C).
