  • 2 cans baked beans Use your favorite brand
  • 1 cup root beer Can substitute with cola or Dr. Pepper
  • ½ cup barbecue sauce Feel free to experiment with flavors
  • 6 slices bacon, chopped Cook until crispy
  • 1 medium onion, diced Sauté until softened
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Pepper

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a skillet, cook the chopped bacon until crispy. Remove and set aside on paper towels.
  • In the same skillet, sauté the diced onion until soft.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the baked beans, root beer, barbecue sauce, mustard, and sautéed onions.
  • Stir in the bacon and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Pour the mixture into a baking dish and bake for 30-40 minutes, or until heated through and bubbly.
  • Serve warm as a side dish.

Notes

For extra flavor, add chopped bell peppers or jalapeños with onions. Top with shredded cheese for a cheesy twist. Let leftovers cool, then cover and refrigerate for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
