Ingredients
  

Dough Ingredients

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F / 43°C)

Filling Ingredients

  • 1 pound Italian sausage, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 green bell pepper sliced
  • 1 onion sliced
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil for brushing

Instructions
 

Prepare the Dough

  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, yeast, and salt.
  • Gradually add the warm water and mix until a dough forms.
  • Knead on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  • Let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Prepare the Filling

  • Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
  • In a skillet, sauté the bell pepper and onion until soft.
  • Combine with the cooked sausage and garlic powder. Season with salt and pepper.

Assemble the Stromboli

  • Roll out the dough into a rectangle.
  • Layer the sausage mixture and sprinkle with mozzarella cheese on one side.
  • Fold the dough over to enclose the filling and pinch the edges to seal.
  • Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Brush the top with olive oil and make a few slits to allow steam to escape.

Bake

  • Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  • Let cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm.

Notes

Serve with a side salad or marinara sauce for dipping. For a crispier crust, place a baking tray with water at the bottom of the oven while baking. Experiment with different kinds of cheese for unique flavors.
