- 1½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 tbsp white vinegar
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 5 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 cup water
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease an 8-inch square baking pan.
In the pan or a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
Make three wells in the dry ingredients. Pour vinegar in one, vanilla in another, and oil in the third.
Pour water over everything and mix until just combined.
Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Let cool before serving. Optional: Dust with powdered sugar or top with a glaze.
