Ingredients
  

  • cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp white vinegar
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 5 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 cup water

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease an 8-inch square baking pan.
  • In the pan or a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
  • Make three wells in the dry ingredients. Pour vinegar in one, vanilla in another, and oil in the third.
  • Pour water over everything and mix until just combined.
  • Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let cool before serving. Optional: Dust with powdered sugar or top with a glaze.
