Main Ingredients
- 3 tbsp smoked paprika
- 2 tbsp ground cumin
- 1 tbsp onion powder
- 2 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tbsp garlic powder 3 teaspoons
- 1 ½ tsp salt or to taste
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp black pepper
Cooking
Measure. Line up all eight spices and measure them into a small bowl.
Whisk. Whisk for 30 seconds, pressing out lumps, until the powder looks evenly rust red.
Jar it. Funnel into a clean, dry jar, seal, shake, and label with the date.
Use it. For 1 pound of ground beef, cook until no pink remains and the meat reaches 160 degrees F, drain, then simmer with 2 tablespoons of blend and 1/4 cup water for 3 to 5 minutes.
Substitutions: Use regular paprika plus a pinch more chili powder if you have no smoked paprika. Swap part of the chili powder for cayenne for more heat.
Tips: Use 2 tablespoons per pound of meat and bloom the blend in the hot pan for 30 seconds.
Storage: Keep in an airtight jar in a cool, dark cupboard for up to 3 months.
