  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 6 tablespoons real butter Use unsalted for best results.
  • 1 cup pecans, coarsely chopped Alternate nuts may be used.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Prepare a sheet of wax paper and have a tablespoon ready for scooping.

Cooking

  • In a large 4-quart saucepan, combine the white sugar, dark brown sugar, milk, vanilla extract, melted butter, and coarsely chopped pecans.
  • Heat the mixture gently on low heat, stirring frequently until the butter melts and mixes well with the sugars.
  • Increase the heat to medium-high and bring the mixture to a boil for exactly 3 minutes, stirring continuously to prevent burning.
  • Remove from heat and stir vigorously for 2 minutes until the mixture thickens.
  • Quickly spoon dollops of the mixture onto the wax paper.
  • Let the pralines cool and set for 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Once fully cooled, store the pralines in an airtight container.

Notes

Crushed pralines make a delicious topping for vanilla ice cream! Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
