  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend) Can switch up the meat to turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese Can substitute with cheddar, provolone, or mozzarella.
  • 1 tbsp butter For sautéing the mushrooms.
  • 4 slices sourdough or rye bread Use your preferred bread.
  • 1 cup mushrooms (sliced) Fresh mushrooms recommended for best flavor.
  • 1 tbsp oil for grilling Any cooking oil is acceptable.
  • 2 tbsp mayo or garlic aioli
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter and sauté the mushrooms until they are golden brown and tender. Set them aside.
  • In a bowl, mix the ground beef with salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Form the mixture into patties that are slightly larger than your bread slices.

Cooking

  • Cook the beef patties in a skillet until browned on both sides.
  • Take the slices of bread and spread a thin layer of mayo on each piece. Place Swiss cheese on both sides of the bread, then add the cooked beef patty and the sautéed mushrooms.
  • Heat a skillet and add oil for grilling. Place the assembled sandwich in the skillet and grill until the bread is golden brown and crispy. Carefully flip the sandwich to grill the other side.
  • Once cooked, slice the sandwich in half and enjoy while hot.

Notes

Serve with a side of crispy fries, a fresh salad, or a warm bowl of soup. For best results, use fresh mushrooms to enhance flavor, and don't rush the sautéing process.
