Main Ingredients
- 1 ½ oz tequila 45 ml, blanco works well
- 3 oz orange juice 90 ml, freshly squeezed if possible
- ½ oz grenadine 15 ml, adjust to taste
- 1 cup ice cubes to fill the glass
- 1 orange slice for garnish
- 1 maraschino cherry for garnish
Cooking
Combine. Pour the tequila and orange juice into a tall glass and stir until blended.
Ice. Fill the glass to the top with ice cubes.
Layer. Hold a teaspoon against the inside of the glass and pour the grenadine slowly over its back so it sinks and forms a red band. Do not stir.
Garnish. Top with an orange slice and a maraschino cherry and serve immediately.
Substitutions: Use sparkling water in place of the tequila for a version without alcohol.
Tips: Fresh orange juice tastes brighter and less sweet than bottled juice.
Storage: Mix to order and serve right away, since the ice dilutes the drink and the layers blur as it sits.
