  • 1 cup butter, unsalted Browned before mixing
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar For crisp edges
  • ¾ cup brown sugar For a chewy center
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour Spoon into measuring cup for accuracy
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt For balanced flavor
  • 2 cups chocolate chips Semisweet or dark chocolate preferred

Preparation

  • Start by cutting butter into even pieces and add it to a saucepan over medium heat. Stir continuously until melted.
  • Continue cooking the butter, stirring constantly, until it reaches a deep golden brown color and smells nutty.
  • In a large bowl, mix the browned butter with granulated and brown sugars until smooth.
  • Add eggs and vanilla, mixing until fully incorporated.
  • In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually fold this mixture into the wet ingredients.
  • Slowly add chocolate chips to the dough, mixing until evenly distributed.

Chilling the dough

  • Cover the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to enhance texture.

Baking

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Scoop spoonfuls of dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, until edges are golden and centers are slightly underbaked.
  • Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.

Notes

For extra crunch, consider adding about 1 cup of chopped nuts such as walnuts or pecans. To store baked cookies, keep them in an airtight container at room temperature.
