Meatball Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef Lean ground beef is recommended.
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs Can use gluten-free breadcrumbs if needed.
  • ½ cup grated parmesan Make sure it's finely grated.
  • 1 large egg Acts as a binder.
  • 1 tblsp milk A splash to keep the meatballs moist.
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • ½ small onion, grated Use grated onion for better integration.
  • 1 tsp salt Adjust to taste.
  • ½ tsp black pepper Adjust to taste.
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning Optional for extra flavor.

For Cooking

  • 2 cups tomato sauce For simmering the cooked meatballs.

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated parmesan, egg, milk, minced garlic, grated onion, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning.
  • Mix the ingredients together with your hands until well combined, but do not overmix.
  • Form the mixture into golf ball-sized meatballs.

Cooking

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) or heat a skillet over medium heat.
  • Place the meatballs on a baking sheet if baking, or directly into the heated skillet if frying.
  • Bake for about 25 minutes or until they are browned and cooked through.
  • For extra flavor, simmer the cooked meatballs in tomato sauce for 5-10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Chilling the meatballs for 20 minutes before cooking helps them keep their shape. You can also freeze leftover meatballs for an easy meal later. Serve them with spaghetti, in a meatball sub, or with mashed potatoes.
