Ingredients

For the Pie

  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 cups semisweet chocolate chips (divided) 2 cups for melting, 1 cup for folding in
  • 3 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a pie plate or a 9-inch springform pan and set aside.
  • In a heat-safe bowl, melt the butter with 2 cups of the chocolate chips until smooth using a double boiler or microwave at 50 percent power in 30-second intervals, stirring between each. Let it cool slightly.
  • In a large mixing bowl, beat the eggs, sugar, and vanilla on medium-high speed for about 3 minutes, until pale and fluffy.
  • Slowly mix in the cooled melted chocolate until fully incorporated.
  • Gently fold in the flour, baking powder, and salt until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  • Fold in the remaining 1 cup of chocolate chips.

Baking

  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  • Bake for 35 to 40 minutes until the edges are set and the center is puffed but still soft.
  • Remove from the oven and let it cool completely before slicing.

Notes

Serve plain or topped with warm hot fudge for an extra treat. To store, cover with plastic wrap or aluminum foil in the refrigerator for up to a week or freeze for longer storage.
