For the filling

  • 1 lb sausage Any type of sausage can be used, including turkey sausage for a leaner option.
  • 2 cups milk
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour Use gluten-free flour for a gluten-free version.
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp garlic powder

For the topping

  • 1 can refrigerated biscuits Can vary based on your preference.
  • 1 cup shredded cheese Optional, can use cheddar or mozzarella.

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat until browned.
  • Stir in flour, salt, pepper, and garlic powder, cooking for another minute.
  • Gradually add milk, stirring until the mixture thickens.
  • Pour the sausage mixture into a baking dish.

Assembly and Baking

  • Cut biscuits in half and place them on top of the sausage mixture.
  • If using, sprinkle cheese on top.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes or until biscuits are golden brown.
  • Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Serve warm on its own, with fresh fruit, or a side salad. Add hot sauce for extra heat. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
