Ingredients
  

For the filling

  • 8 pieces fresh peaches, peeled and sliced Use ripe peaches for best flavor.
  • 1 cup organic sugar For coating the peaches.
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg Can be substituted with extra cinnamon if needed.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

For the topping

  • ¼ cup butter Slice and place on top of fruit mixture.
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour, unsifted Can be substituted with gluten-free flour.
  • 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cup butter (2 sticks) Softened for mixing.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and brown sugar.
  • Add 1 cup of butter to the flour mixture. Mix on low speed until it becomes crumbly.

Filling

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the sugar, salt, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Set this mixture aside.
  • Peel and slice the peaches, then place them in a large bowl.
  • Mix the sugar mixture into the sliced peaches, stirring well until the peaches are coated.
  • Pour the fruit mixture into a 9 x 13-inch baking dish or a 3-quart baking dish.
  • Slice the remaining ¼ cup of butter and place the pieces randomly on top of the peach mixture.

Topping

  • Spread the flour mixture evenly on top of the fruit.

Baking

  • Bake uncovered at 400°F for 45-55 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown.

Notes

Peach Crisp is best served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Can also be topped with caramel sauce or nuts. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
