Ingredients
  

For the Brisket

  • 2-5 pounds beef brisket Choose a well-trimmed cut with even marbling.
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil For searing the brisket.
  • 1 tablespoon salt For seasoning.
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper For seasoning.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder In the spice rub.
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika In the spice rub.
  • 1 cup beef broth or cooking liquid For cooking the brisket.
  • 1 cup onions, chopped For added flavor at the bottom of the slow cooker.
  • 1 cup carrots, chopped For added flavor at the bottom of the slow cooker.

For the Barbecue Sauce

  • 2 cups ketchup Base of the sauce.
  • ½ cup molasses For sweetness.
  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar For tanginess.
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce Adds depth of flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard Adds a touch of spice.
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika For additional smokiness.
  • to taste salt and pepper For seasoning the sauce.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Rinse the brisket under cold water and dry it with paper towels.
  • Apply a spice rub all over the meat using salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika.

Searing

  • Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Sear the brisket for 5-7 minutes on each side until browned.
  • Transfer the seared brisket to the slow cooker.

Cooking

  • Place chopped onions and carrots at the bottom of the slow cooker.
  • Pour your chosen cooking liquid over the brisket.
  • Cover the slow cooker tightly and cook on low for 8 to 10 hours or on high for 4 to 6 hours.

Making Barbecue Sauce

  • In a medium saucepan, combine all the barbecue sauce ingredients.
  • Whisk together until smooth and simmer over medium heat for 15-20 minutes.

Notes

Ensure to maintain moisture by not opening the slow cooker too often. Leftover brisket can be used in sandwiches, tacos or hash.
